FATHER POTHIN’S WEEKLY REFLECTION

A FORGIVING SPIRIT

This Sunday’s gospel talks about the need for forgiveness, it talks about the reward of forgiveness, about the consequences of the lack of forgiveness. Forgiveness is something we all struggle with, have struggled with or will deal with at some point in our life. The difficulty lies in the understanding or the perception of the forgiveness by those who grant or receive it.

What shall we know about forgiveness? Forgiveness is not a reward that must be earned; forgiveness is a gift to be given. The secret of forgiveness costs nothing and is worth millions. By the simple act of granting forgiveness, we release the demons of the past about which we can do nothing, and we create in ourselves a new heart, a new beginning. Having a forgiving spirit means that our history ceases to control our destiny. Forgiving is freeing.

Is there anyone you need to forgive or ask for forgiveness? What are you waiting for?
